GUIDELINES FOR LITURGISTS
Worship at 10:30 AM (Summer 10:00AM)
Thank you so much for helping to lead the Collingswood Presbyterian Church in worship. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call.
You will generally be asked to read the lesson(s) from the Old Testament, Psalms or Epistles. This will be sent to you during the week before you are serving as Liturgist. If you notice any difficult words, consult a Bible Dictionary, Google or call me. The Pastor will read the gospel lesson.
It is appropriate (but not necessary) to say:
“Listen for the Word of God” before reading the scripture and to say
“May God bless the reading of God’s holy Word.” – or
“This is the Word of the Lord…. Thanks be to God!” after the reading.
Please wait to take your seat in the congregation until the next hymn.
In addition to the scripture lesson(s), you will also lead in the:
- Call to Worship – usually a responsive reading.
- Prayer of Confession – usually a printed prayer we pray aloud in unison. Before you begin the Prayer of Confession, you can say, “Let us pray.”
- Words of Assurance— please read and conclude with “Amen.”
Please meet me by the Narthex 5-10 minutes before the service.
Thank you so much for being diligent in preparing to lead worship by practicing and making sure you are aware of what you will be doing. I truly appreciate your willingness to participate in this way, and I know the congregation appreciates it as well.
